Dragonicum Tourism: XAVIER PRESTIGE TOUR

Dragonicum Tourism: XAVIER PRESTIGE TOUR: "NORMANDY, FRENCH CASTLES By Xavier Danet, Xavier Prestige Tour Normandy A journey through the Norman bocage that takes you from Honfleu..."

XAVIER PRESTIGE TOUR

NORMANDY, FRENCH CASTLES
By Xavier Danet, Xavier Prestige Tour

Normandy
A journey through the Norman bocage that takes you from Honfleur harbour, cradle of the impressionist painters, to the landing beaches, which vividly recall the events of D Day. You can also discover Deauville, the famous coastal resort, the cliffs of Etretat that became famous thanks to Monet and Courbet.

Chateau Fontainebleau

The castle of Fontainebleau is located an hour away from Paris. Occupied by the kings of France, as early as the12th century, it is a unique place, since all the monarchs lived there until Napoleon III. Francois I, then his son, Henri II, are the mainarchitects. With the help of the Italian school, Le Rosso and Le Primatice, they will build a “renaissance” style castle. Fontainebleau is also Napoleon’s “farewell to arms” that took place in the white horse courtyard in 1814.

Barbozon
You may also visit Barbizon, a charming village, located at the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau. Jean-François Millet and Théodore Rousseau chose to live there. With Corot and Daubigny, they are at the origin of the “school of Barbizon”. Today, numerous galleries of paintings attest the artistic activity of this village. Some excellent restaurants will add to the pleasure of the visit.

Castle of Azay le Rideau
The current appearance of the castle of Azay le Rideau goes back to this formidable period of architectural creativity which was the beginning of the reign of François 1st. Until this period, the castle of Azay le Rideau had a defensive object and look like all the fortresses of the area: drawbridge and machicolation. Moreover its architecture returned the image of the power of the lord who was the Master of the place.

The initial fortress was subjected to several events, and in particular the fire caused by Charles VII during the One hundred Year old war.

The castle of Azay le Rideau To the end of XVth century, architecture and the decoration of the French residences seigneuriales will evolve. The builders are helped by Italian artists and the castle of Azay le Rideau is in this paramount evolution of our royal architecture.

Château des Dames
Built on the river Cher, where the unique beauty of its architecture reflects in the water, the Château de Chenonceau is the Val de Loire’s finial.

Château des Dames as recorded in the French history books, Chenonceau owes a large part of its charm to women: it was built in 1513 by Katherine Briçonnet, then made even more attractive by Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Médicis, and saved from the rigours of the French Revolution by Mrs Dupin.

The lovely surroundings, the formal garden and the park surrounding it add to the impression of delicate grace emanating from the castle.

Chenonceau is not only remarkable for its architecture and history but also for the fine quality of its collections as can be seen from the inside visit: Renaissance furniture, a vast ensemble of XVI th and XVII th centuries tapestries and a great number of masterpieces.

Le Primatice, Rubens, Le Tintoret, Rigaud, Nattier, Van Loo are among the most famous names that can be found there.

Château Cheverny
The lands were purchased by Henri Hurault, comte de Cheverny, a lieutenant-general and military treasurer for Louis XI, whose descendent the marquis de Vibraye is the present owner.

Lost to the Crown because of fraud to the State, it was donated by King Henri II to his mistress Diane de Poitiers. However, she preferred Château de Chenonceau and sold the property to the former owner's son, Philippe Hurault, who built the château between 1624 and 1630, to designs by the sculptor-architect of Blois, Jacques Bougier, who was trained in the atelier of Salomon de Brosse, and whose design at Cheverny recalls features of the Palais du Luxembourg. The interiors were completed by the daughter of Henri Hurault and Marguerite, marquise de Montglas, by 1650, employing craftsmen from Blois.

During the next 150 years ownership passed to many owners, and in 1768 a major interior renovation was undertaken. Required to forfeit much of the Hurault wealth at the time of the French Revolution, the family sold it in 1802, at the height of the Empire but bought it back in 1824, during the Restauration under Charles X. The aristocracy was once again in a very strong political and economic position.

In 1914, the owner opened the chateau to the public, one of the first to do so. The family still operates it, and Château Cheverny remains a top tourist attraction to this day, renowned for magnificent interiors and its collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art. A pack of some seventy dogs are also kept on the grounds and are taken out for hunts twice weekly. A video of their feeding can be viewed.

Only a portion of the original fortified castle possibly remains in existence today. It is somewhat of a mystery, because to date there is no reliable way to prove whether or not a certain section is part of the original building. An ancient travelling artist captured the original castle in a drawing, but it contains no reliable landmarks, so the drawing offers no proof one way or the other.

See Château Chambord!
A dream that has long been shared by each and every one of us finally comes true: as a truly extravagant Château in every way and masterpiece of the French Renaissance, Chambord is yours to explore at will.

Take the double spiral staircase, which two people can go up or down without ever meeting, and head to the royal apartments of François I and Louis XIV. The floor above immerses you in the world of royal hunts. Continue up to the terraces and you’ll find yourself surrounded by roofing and chimneys forming a fairytale village, as if suspended in the sky. Look down towards the grand canal and … beyond to the wild game reserve.

XAVIER PRESTIGE TOURS

What about a Luxury Guided Tour to visit the Palace of Versailles?

By Xavier Danet, Xavier Prestige Tour

My name is Xavier. I've been a driver and guide in Paris for more than 15 years for the best palaces hotels, such as the Bristol and the Ritz. I created my company a few months ago, XAVIER PRESTIGE TOUR, and bought a limousine, Mercedes Class S 320.

I went to University, where I studied literature, art and history which enables me to guide my clients in Paris, but also in castles and museums, everywhere in France. I'm perfectly fluent in English and Spanish.

I’ll take you to Versailles, a palace to be seen, not only for its sumptuous architecture, but for the historic reasons that preceded its destiny. On the way, I’ll tell you about the history of the monarchy, why Versailles became a symbol of absolutism. I’ll blend history, social context and stories explaining the building of the palace.

After, the visit of the castle, I’ll take you to the gardens, designed by Le Notre, the Trianons, and the Queen’s hamlet. On the way, I’ll tell you about the influence of Nicolas Fouquet, the national treasurer, before his disgrace, and the lifestyle, “l’étiquette”, at the time of Louis XIV.

EGYPTRAVEL

Organizer of Egypt Vacations, Cultural Tours, Camping and Safari Tours, Golf and Diving Tours, Cruises, Guided Tours with Egyptologists, Sightseeing Tours, Conference Management, Corporate Travel, Leisure Travel, Classic Tours, and Oriental Cooking Lessons

By Taco Moha Ali

EGYPTRAVEL is global Travel Marketing Class A in Egypt, Turkey, Thailand & Philippines, Hong Kong, Switzerland, England, Holland, Italy and different countries. Establish in 1986, Aimed to offer to Egypt' Visitors the Utmost services for both Business and Leisure needs.

Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world's most famous monuments, including the Giza pyramid complex and its Great Sphinx. The southern city of Luxor contains numerous ancient artifacts such as the Karnak Temple, and the Valley of the Kings. Egypt is widely regarded as an important political and cultural nation of the Middle East.

Most people who think of Egypt think of antiquities, but Egypt offers much more. Certainly it is a prime location to see our great heritage from the ancient world, including Pyramids and wonderful Temples, but it is also part of the Holy Land, and tours to Christian and other religious monuments are popular. Yet Egypt also offers nature and desert treks, great scuba diving and even golf, fishing and birding expeditions. One may choose to relax on the wondrous Egypt Red Sea or Sinai coasts, take in the high culture of Cairo, or even leisurely float down the Egyptian Nile on a luxurious river boat.

Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa and the Middle East. The great majority of its estimated 82 million live near the banks of the Nile River, in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 sq mi), where the only arable agricultural land is found. The large areas of the Sahara Desert are sparsely inhabited. About half of Egypt's residents live in urban areas, with the majority spread across the densely-populated centers of greater Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta.

Climate
The Egyptian climate is influenced by the factors of location, topography, and general system for pressure and water surfaces. These aspects affect Egypt's climate dividing it into several regions. Egypt lies in the dry equatorial region except its northern areas located within the moderate warm region with a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean region. It is warm and dry in the summer and moderate with limited rainfall increasing at the coast in winter. The annual average day and nighttime temperatures in Lower and Upper Egypt is 20 and 25, and 7 and 17 respectively.

Egyptravel organizes Tours to Egypt and covers all interests: Cultural, Monuments, Camping and Safari and all in-door activities, Golf and Diving at the Red Sea, Cruises on the Nile between Luxor and Aswan and behind The High Dam, Oriental Cooking Lessons, Guided tours with Egyptologists.

The Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt is the largest of the original Seven Wonders of the World that is basically still intact. There is a Collection of Egyptian mummies, coffins, treasures of King Tutankhamen and ancient Egyptian artefacts.

3. Sultan Hassan Madrassa and Masjid
This is one of the extraordinarily wonderful Islamic Monuments in the Islamic World. If Ancient Egypt is proud of the Pyramids of Giza, Islamic Egypt has to be proud of the Sultan Hassan Madrassa. The founder of this gigantic monument is the Sultan Hassan, son of the great Mamluke Sultan Al-Nasser Mohamed Ibn Qalawoun. Sultan Hassan ruled twice, the first time in 1347, when he was 13 years old, only to be dethroned by the other Mamluke princes and generals. The second time was in 1356 A.D. The Madrassa-Mosque contains 4 Madrassas or religious schools and is 7,906 square metres in size. It has 4 façades, the most important being the 2 main façades, including the remarkable northeast one. It is 145m long and 38m tall!

4. Valley of the Kings
The Valley of the Kings was the royal cemetery for 62 Pharaohs, and is located on the west bank at Luxor. The only entrance to this place was a long narrow winding path. This was a secret place, where sentries were placed at the entrance of the Valley, as well as along the top of the hills, in the hopes of discouraging tomb robbers, who had in the past plundered all royal tombs, including the treasures of the Pyramids! Some of the thefts were probably carefully planned, but others were spur of the moment, as when an earlier tomb was accidentally discovered while cutting a new one and workmen took advantage of the opportunity.

5. Abu Simbel
In 1257 BCE, Pharaoh Ramses II (1279-13 BCE) had two temples carved out of solid rock at a site on the west bank of the Nile south of Aswan in the land of Nubia and known today as Abu Simbel. Long before Ramses II, the site had been sacred to Hathor of Absek. Because of their remote location near the Sudanese border in southern Egypt, the temples were unknown until their rediscovery in 1813.The sacred area, marked out as a forecourt and bounded on the north and south sides by brick walls, occupied a place between the sandstone cliffs and the river. Ramses' temple was cut into the face of the cliff, before which is a rock-cut terrace. The temple is approached across this terrace up a flight of steps with an inclined plane in the middle, and enclosed on either side by a balustrade behind which stands a row of hawks and statues of Ramses in various forms.

When the water level is very low, we may ask our guests to get off and walk up the riverbed. About noon, we arrive at the departure point of the trek, where we meet our porters. According the time of arrival, we may take a rather easy path, but usually very muddy, for a 4 to 6 -hour walk or sleep in Madobag. There is only one difficult passage: about 300 meters of a slippery uphill path. Arrival at the end of the day. Setting up camp near the uma, the main house of the Mentawai clan that welcomes us.

And if we are lucky, we will witness a shaman ceremony. We can explore at leisure the surroundings and visit other clans. At dusk, dinner at our camp, the food is a mixture of Indonesian classics and Western favorites .
